Vallée de Viñales is karst lowland in the west of Cuba, the valley covers 132 square kilometers and is surrounded by the mountains of the Sierra de los Organos. Located 30 km north of the provincial capital Pinar del Rio. In 1999, the cultural landscape of the valley was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Traditional methods of cultivating the land are used in the valley, in particular in tobacco growing, the folk architecture of farms and villages has been preserved, the region has a rich ethnocultural history.

The valley is known for its “mogote” – steep hills with flat peaks up to 400 m high, their age is about 160 millions years. There are many caves in the surrounding mountains, the most famous of which are: Indian Cave (Cueva del Indio, Cueva del Indio), José Miguel (Cueva de José Miguel), Santo Tomas (Cueva de Santo Tomas), the last cave is considered one of the largest in Latin America, inside it passes 45 km of galleries.

In the valley are also the camp of the runaway slaves of Palenque de los Cimarrones, the Casa de Caridad Botanical Garden (Casa de Caridad), near the valley is a giant “Prehistoric Mural” (Mural de la Prehistoria) by artist Leovihildo Gonzalez – Prehistoric people and animals are depicted on a 120-meter-high cliff. The region has developed hiking and climbing.
