Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park occupies the southern part of the subtropical wetlands of the Everglades south of the Tamayami hiking trail in the US state of Florida. With the exception of the main visitor center and a small staff, the park has no economic activity and 5,246 km² of the park is considered a wilderness area, named after renowned conservationist and writer Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The territory received the status of a national park on May 30, 1934, but actually became a park only on December 6, 1947. On October 26, 1976, the park was declared an international biosphere reserve by UNESCO, and on November 10, 1978, most of the park was declared a wilderness area.
