Togliatti is a city in the Samara region of Russia. Located on the left bank of the Volga opposite the Zhiguli. Founded in 1737 by Vasily Tatishchev as the fortress city of Stavropol. In 1953–1955, it was moved to a higher place, since the former city was flooded when the Kuybyshev Reservoir was created. Since 1964, bears the name of Palmiro Togliatti.
A large center for the automotive industry (AvtoVAZ, GM-AvtoVAZ) and the chemical industry, as well as railway, river and road transport.
