Stavropol is the city, the administrative center of the Stavropol Territory of the Russian Federation. Cultural, business and industrial center of the region. One of the largest cities in the North Caucasus and the North Caucasus Federal District.
Founded in 1777. The status of the city received in 1785. Until 1935, it was called Stavropol-Caucasus, from 1935 to 1943 – Voroshilovsk
