Montpellier is one of the largest cities in the south of France, the administrative center of the Hero department of the Occitania region. Located in the Lez Valley, 10 km from the Mediterranean coast.
Montpellier has been known since the X century as a place of trade in spices. The University of Montpellier was founded in 1220.
Main attractions: Triumphal Gate of Peyrou (1693), Botanical Garden (1593), Fabre Museum with a rich collection of works by French artists.
An international wine fair takes place annually in Montpellier.
